Neutral Collage for the Artworks

Back to my ole standby.. using a netural pallet.  I just love to mix paint with collage elements.  The many layers of this piece invite calm exploration allowing me to zone out in contemplation.

4"x4" Little Jewels for the Artworks

These little jewels are also layers of oil and cold wax painted wood panels then individuality mounted on black wood block.  The colors are a bit brighter than what I see on my screen.

These pieces mounted on black backing will be hanging at Artworks

I have been experimenting with Oil and Cold Wax on Wood panel.  After applying  many layers of color the discovery begins.  Usually I a nothing in mind except to see what colors appear and pleasing they are to me.  Sometimes landscapes appear as in Magnificent Sunrise, which has been used by the Orcas Center in their Playbill this season.

I love the sense of discovery and the fun of playing with the materials.

More Artworks Pieces

Cleaned up the studio today and made marks to  "activate" the canvas.  Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to work on the purple series and begin to explore taupe, black and white.

Here is a piece that may be on display at the Artworks.  I say may be because we are encouraged to bring in lots of work.  Then the very talented and dedicated people involved with putting together the galley each year chose what is to be hung.  Due to limited space sometimes not everything displayed.      So what is actually selected remains to be seen.
Every year I am amazed with displays... will post the photos after the opening in February.

Making Up..

Today I get the whole day and am continuing in my preparation for Intake day at the Artworks.

These two pieces were begun in a class I took with Diana Sanford, a pastel artist instructor who encourages experimentation.  Participants engage in a number of loosening up exercises helping us to go beyond our critical mind.  Having taken a previous class with her I was looking forward to more fun and play.  Ended up only participating one day due to the onset of flu.  Recently I have revisited the starts form that one day of class and have taken them further using acrylic paint.

Well living where I do, sometimes it is necessary to go off island at which time I skip a day in the studio... However am going to post more of what I am preparing to hang in the Artworks Coop

Part of my series revisiting PURPLE ..
I have been away from one of my favorite colors for awhile, so I am playing with purple combining introducting blacks, greys,  green and orange.  More to come in this series.

Another Day... yea

And another piece that will be displayed the Orcas Artworks.

I had a "start" that has been staring at me for the past few months so when I viewed a video from Nancy Hillis on activating the canvas I was inspired to compete this painting.
Fun and Freeing.

I am back... and giving it another go.

2017

My Intention this year is to paint daily and post a piece of art each day.

Fulfilling this intention will hopefully assist in my artistic growth by being able to review, explore and develop my work.

What fun!

Additional intentions are:

Workshops: Dayna Collins and Nancy Hillis
Both of which I have signed up and ready to participate

Orcas Island Artist Studio Tour.. August 11, 12,13
Well this migh be a challenge because the road to our house is a single lane road with only one turn out spot.. so having multi cars coming and going might be an issue... at this time I am brainstorming.
Possible solutions
1.  A person at the beginning of the road directing traffic
2.  A sign directing traffic to call or text traffic information
Will keep working on this.

The Artworks will be opening in February.  Our intake in next week. I think I will begin my posting of pieces that will be on display this year..
The above piece is a recent work that I completed as I painted along, via video, with Nancy Ellis.  I felt so free and enjoyed every minute while I danced and played in my studio.
Still working on the title.
