Another Day... yea

And another piece that will be displayed the Orcas Artworks.

I had a "start" that has been staring at me for the past few months so when I viewed a video from Nancy Hillis on activating the canvas I was inspired to compete this painting.
Fun and Freeing.

I am back... and giving it another go.

2017

My Intention this year is to paint daily and post a piece of art each day.

Fulfilling this intention will hopefully assist in my artistic growth by being able to review, explore and develop my work.

What fun!

Additional intentions are:

Workshops: Dayna Collins and Nancy Hillis
Both of which I have signed up and ready to participate

Orcas Island Artist Studio Tour.. August 11, 12,13
Well this migh be a challenge because the road to our house is a single lane road with only one turn out spot.. so having multi cars coming and going might be an issue... at this time I am brainstorming.
Possible solutions
1.  A person at the beginning of the road directing traffic
2.  A sign directing traffic to call or text traffic information
Will keep working on this.

The Artworks will be opening in February.  Our intake in next week. I think I will begin my posting of pieces that will be on display this year..
The above piece is a recent work that I completed as I painted along, via video, with Nancy Ellis.  I felt so free and enjoyed every minute while I danced and played in my studio.
Still working on the title.

Ode to Hiroshi

I have been following the 9x9s of Hiroshi Matsumoto for a while and just tried to do my own abstraction of this work... all are 4x4" painted with acrylic paint on wood blocks.    Pretty much fun...

Think I will try to work on just paper and see where this leads.....

Mining for Meaning #2

Part of my Kimono Series... more work to do, but am beginning to see form and shape appearing

Sunday, April 6, 2014

Approaching from the "formal"  end of the spectrum.. loving the how texture, mark making and colors work on the paper I realized that my work represents my love of the kimono/cruciform shape found in so many places.  I love contemporary architecture, lines intersecting creating maps, paths, fences shapes. .. and then breaking away. So the joy I find in painting overlaps formal and conceptual..  producing a variety of  pieces yet the underlying cruciform shape continue to emerge.

The first series comes from the deli paper inspiration .. making marks, playing with paints and developing shapes  as demonstrated on Jane Davies blog

Then I started adding bits of color

And then my passion for all things purple kicked in.............so much fun!
That's it for now.... but hopefully I will keep up the posting because there are more pieces to post.

Mining for Meanng - #1

Been involved in online class with Jane Davies called Mining for Meaning.  We have been trying to delve deeper into our work by working in series.

Here a few of my attempts..  The first two developed from Janes work I truly admire,  enjoyed working with colors I usually do not use

This one developed from my Kimono Series which I continue to revisit
And of course.. my love of purple surfaces.

Will continue to post over the next few days ...
